Company Pensions
Occupational company pension schemes are set up by an employer on behalf of the employees. The employer must contribute for the benefit of employees, meanwhile the employees will have access to make their own contributions.
Occupational pension schemes may or may not be contracted out of the State Earnings Related Pension Scheme (SERPS) and can be either a final salary or money purchase type. A final salary arrangement will pay a pension dependent on length of service and final remuneration and is known as a defined benefits scheme. A money purchase arrangement will pay a pension dependent on the size of fund that you build up while contributing and is known as a defined contribution scheme.
